To play Four Square, you need a ball, people, and Four Square. Before you begin playing, you choose a server/ace.

You must also choose which square you want to be in. Then the server can serve it to anybody's square. The ball has to bounce once in your own square, and then you hit it to somebody else's square. Then that person has to hit it to someone else's square. Keep playing on until somebody gets out.

If you bounce the ball two times, you're out. When you get out, you go to the end of the line. The game ends when the time is up and everybody got a turn. Here are variations -different ways to play the game. When you do black jack, the ball has to be in the air and you catch it and say "black jack." When you say that, you switch squares. When you do popcorn, you can hit it two times. When you say "war" you pass the ball to the same person. It means that your challenging and testing them. If they say "unwar" you hit it to somebody else's square. There are other variations also.
